My advice fwiw is to register yourself and set up a DD, you'll find it saves you a lot of time and effort, you can switch away anytime, no penalty (subject to paying etc) but it's entirely up to you.

A bill will arrive at the property (if you have not signed up) unless the outgoing tenants gave PP other contact info. There is a facility to make a one-off payment; you're a deemed customer as with every other company until you have switched, but then you're a landlord so you already know how it works.
PP don't have call centres.
