Are you talking about many months away or just missing the occasional reading? If the first read below, if only an occasional reading missed (normally one a month is ok) then no prob, it will catch up on the next reading, just send one before going and one on return, and then continue with the reminder once a month.
But If very long... Are the meters accessible from the outside of the property? If so no problem as a meter reader will be able to read albeit infrequently. If PP estimate it's very likely the estimates will be higher than what's used, so this will skew your statements until a meter reader comes along, which could be 6 months or however long..
In answer to your question the best course of action if it is going to be a long time is to advise PP via help in the app/online, ask wattbot, type message the team and let them know how long the property will be unoccupied and whether a meter reader will be able to read as asked above. (also If you can give them an idea of whether you will use much energy (presumably the heating will be on low in the winter and a few electrical bits may be on so likely you'll use very little)
