For years, Kate and I did not apply, because in Wales, our Water Rates were included in the rent we paid to Carmarthenshire County Council at £10.45 a week, so I thought we did not qualify.
Then I had a phonecall from the Welsh Energy Saving Trust of all people, who told me how to get it.
We applied for a meter to be installed, this took about 3 months to sort, when the meter was installed, we sent off the form to apply for WaterSure Wales - we'd already got Kate's specialist to fill in the section of the form regarding medical need for extra water, which qualified us under the:
The really, really, daft thing?
Even though we use a lot for Kate, we use less water than the 'average bill' used to define the cap for WaterSure Wales, so even though we have the cap, we spend less than it.
I think we're now paying between £276 and £324 a year, instead of £543 (the cap is currently £327.40) - if memory serves, they charge the capped rate until they take the December meter reading, then they adjust the bill from January to April if you've used less. I used to send readings once a month, but unlike Pure Planet, the result was an email saying - 'why are you sending us readings, we read the meter twice a year?'
