Actually, I switched gas before the price reduction was announced. But switching takes so long, the price reduction was announced whilst I was thumb twiddling! At 2.49p per kWh gas, the move is still worthwhile, especially when you're burning 60,000 kWh per year!
I've now pressed the button on electricity. After all my years of having E7 meters and never being on an E7 tariff, I've found an E7 tariff where break even is 15% or more night time consumption, which even my boring consumption profile of 21% night time consumption makes a no brainer (the boiler is one of the biggest contributors to the electricity bill!).
My gripe with the tweet was simply it being misleading. I know PP have multiple prices for different regions, but any one customer can only see two prices from PP - gas & electric- and only one has changed. Hence my observation.
I'm sorry to be leaving as I love the PP approach, but with energy bills at the £2k5 level, even subtle price variations have a big impact. It also looks as if I shall be unexpectedly moving again soon, so leaving incoming tenants with a more conventional supplier is probably kinder, and as the letting agents are the most incompetent I've ever encountered, the less hassle I have the better.
I'm sure I'll be back, I'm one happy PP customer!
