• Why are we being charged based on an estimated bill?

We always submit our meter readings via the app before the deadline given in the email asking us to take the readings, but for every bill since we joined we have been charged based on an estimate of our usage. The date of the estimate is always one day after we submitted our meter readings and the estimates are always slightly higher than the actual readings we have sent in. Why are we being charged based on an estimate when we have sent in our actual usage on time?

  • Hello @Peter F,

Welcome to the community. If you wait and submit on the actual deadline date, in my experience that is the reading that will be used.

If you submit before, Pure Planet will apply an uplift (based on your previous usage) in order to estimate your reading on the due date.

  • hi Peter F
to put it another way (although Lenny's reply is succinct), you are billed to your statement date, so if there is a gap (more than a day or 2) between what you submit and your statement date, PP will estimate those extra days. It will correct itself on the next statement when you submit readings.
To correct you, you aren't actually being charged any more as your Direct Debit remains the same, it's only that your statement balance will be adjusted to reflect those days.
