• Volkswagen 'game-changing' electric vehicle spotted

    A rumoured 'game-changing' electric vehicle made by Volkswagen has been spotted in testing.

    The new hatchback said to be coming some time in the next 12 months has a real-world range of more than 300 miles on one charge.

    Earlier this week Fully Charged presenter Robert Llewellyn tweeted that he was driving an EV which he believed will be a "game changer".

    After much speculation on Twitter, EV news website Electrek has posted new photos of a VW Golf-like EV spotted in South Africa.

    It's claimed that VW will produce 100,000 a year and it will sell for about £25,000.

    Game changer? Maybe, maybe not. But I reckon definitely very interesting!!

  • If VW have sorted out the battery production to allow them to hit their sales targets then that will be the big difference - Hyundai, Kia, Nissan and Jaguar are all being severely constrained by shortage of batteries, and have low sales volumes/long lead times accordingly. You can only sell what you can deliver to customers after all!!

  • Early days and best south African roads not same as testing in cold Norway or wet UK. However it should help the at least some of 600,000 VW workers scandalised by a stupid move to reduce urea consumption outside of EPA TDI tests in USA. Politics meant at least 300,000 perfectly usable cars scrapped and replaced by energy guzzling SUVs over there.

    In UK we need more CCS chargers that are reliable. Recent trip: 4 broken on M1 meant a 2 hour 100 mile EV journey took over 4 hours!

  • I once owned an Alfasud...(really!)
    If it wasn't for the fact that you needed to remove the engine to tighten the handbrake cable I might have kept it..
    That said it made a lovely noise...(apart from the noise it made as the metal turned to iron oxide)
    I love Italian cars, so much more fun...
