Do I need WiFi to have a smart meter?

No, smart meters don’t need to use your home WiFi to work.

They use two wireless networks which are separate from your home WiFi.

The two wireless networks used by smart meters are called ‘HAN’ and ‘WAN’.

HAN stands for ‘home area network’ and is what connects the smart meter to the In-Home Display so you can see the latest energy usage and readings.

WAN stands for ‘wide area network’ and is what connects your smart meter to energy providers like Pure Planet. This network is used to send readings to us from your smart meter.
