Question

Smart metre

My wife had texts out of the blue from someone about smart metre installation.

What is this about?

How do they work better than conventional metres?

What are the benefits for me? Not the supplier.

Are they constantly online?

The original idea that they save money and reduce use has been ruled out, has it?

Hi @Rad1o, just ignore the texts. You won’t get a Smart meter without your consent.

There are certainly two schools of thought on the SM debate. Variable charging potential is an upside. A remote controlled big off switch is a downside.

It’s up to you if you want one...

Hey @Rad1o

Ultimately it’s up to you whether you’d like a smart meter installed or not :relaxed:

You may find another Community chat about the benefits (or not) of smart meters interesting!

We’ve also highlighted some of the benefits in a recent Pure Planet blog post about smart - hope you find it helpful.
