Some exciting news! The Pure Planet Community is moving to an improved platform with greater functionality in the coming months.
This community has been around for nearly three years already! What started as a handful of people way, way back in May 2017 is now 32,000-strong of amazing Members building a really strong community.😍
Our purpose hasn’t changed. We’re here to chat to other Members, post questions, support each other, get involved and share views about Pure Planet, renewable energy, sustainability and environment issues, or anything else.
It’s been wonderful to see us grow so quickly and maintain our friendly, respectful, fun and above all safe community.
In the next few months we’re moving to a platform provided by a company called Insided - they power communities for lots of other organisations, including T-Mobile, Sonos, Coursera, Deezer, and Kaspersky.
We also want to stay a massive thanks to Standing on Giants who we partnered with to launch and grow our community. They’re a great team and their support has been amazing.
While none of the platforms we’ve looked at has all the things we could ever want, we’ve chosen to move to Insided because its platform is a few years ahead of what we have now.
The new platform will bring improvements to uploading photos, better all-round mobile experience, a more intuitive text editor, upvoting in the ideas section, a community blog, improved search (with results appearing as you type), a more flexible FAQs section, and a blogging section. It also gives easier access to style sheets and HTML, so can change the look and feel faster.
When is the community moving?
We’re currently aiming to move in mid-June. Of course, technology may have other ideas! But so far we’re on track. We’ll be posting regular updates here, of course, as well as asking for your help and feedback as we build our new home.
What will happen to community members’ accounts?
Everyone’s account will be migrated across.
What will happen to existing community posts?
We’re hopeful that all content - posts, photos, Best Answers, profile info, etc - will be copied across. It’s possible that, if we have enough time, we’ll delete some older posts which are out of date.
What happens next?
Yours truly and
Can community members take part?
Yes! We’re really hoping that we’ll get your help along the way. There’s a lot of stuff that needs your input. As these crop up we’ll post in the Testing & Feedback section.
Our planned community day, which we’d hoped to host in May, is of course postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but we'll be looking at some kind of online webchat instead.
That’s it for now. Not a huge amount of detail yet - that’s coming very soon! I just wanted to share the news once the ink had dried….
