Hi everyone and welcome to the July 2020 instalment of the Pure Planet Community round-up where we look back at some of our recent highlights.

And take a sneak peek at what’s coming next from PP.

Over the last month we’ve started to venture out of our homes a little more as Covid-19 pandemic restrictions start to ease a little.

Yours truly spent a day at PP HQ - for the first time since March - and it was a little eery, to be honest.

Whilst I was bemoaning the lack of good coffee, @Bev and @Nataly  have been looking forward to getting to a hairdresser, while @25 quid  has enjoyed the reopening of pubs. Alas some of us looking forward to going on holiday may end up disappointed.

Members are sharing selfies with facemasks, including this homemade stunner by @Angelabikerbabe :grinning:

Has working from home made you think differently about your work/life balance? There are some really interesting perspectives from @G4RHL  and @Jowl . And will you be taking up the offer of a Covid-19 vaccination - check out this poll by @Bev

The winner of the July photo challenge - Gardens - is @25 quid  with this beautiful picture of flowers next to a brick building.

The subject for August’s photo challenge is ‘Hometown Pride’ and there’s a bonus challenge of ‘long exposure’ if you want to stretch yourself! Let’s get snapping!

If you prefer words to pics, then check out this doggy caption contest, or the community’s word association game, or find out what made @Jon1  mention Curly Wurlys

Elsewhere, we really loved this post by @Adam2  on what made him happy last month, who was part of a great discussion about wind farms.

At Pure Planet we moved to a new community platform on 1 July, of course, and there was an app update in July which has some improvements for new joiners, thanks to member feedback in the community.

We know that moving to a new community platform has meant a few Members have had to rediscover how features work. Thanks for being patient as we iron out some of the bugs.:raised_hands:

If you’re up for suggesting new ideas for Pure Planet to look into, including community features, you may be interested in joining the community ideas board. Right now it’s still invite-only, but just drop me or @Nataly  a message and we’ll get you in!

We also launched a summer special tariff last month and were left in awe at this amazing spreadsheet put together by @woz

Pure Planet co-founder and CEO Andrew Ralston got loads of questions in a community Q&A in July - including some really great posts from @ChrisH  @NannyOgg @Gwyndy @Strutt G @SharonP  and more. But, much more importantly, and because we really like to address the big debates of the day here, a collective thanks to @25 quid  for sticking his neck out and asking….. Which kinds of emojis do you like best?!

Oh, and if you wondered what it would be like to shower with Marmite then @Bev  has found just the thing for you.

What’s coming next?

In the world of EVs, we’re still working on some of the data and feedback from our EVs pilot members. We’re hoping to have some tariff and other news to share with you soon.

We’re also interested to know if you’ve considered subscribing to an EV instead of buying one, and whether this is something you’d like to see?

Another EV service we’re interested in is helping new EV drivers get their first home charger. For now, does anyone have recommendations to help new member @Ju713t ?

Finally, we’ll be sharing more news soon on a new Pure Planet Community section where we’ll be working with Members to test out new energy and smart home related products and services. It’s like our EVs pilot but to encompass more, so watch this space. We’ve got a fw Members interested already, including @Makdoc @GarethHorne @Eastbath @matthewr @andyseal @forceword @Daspy @Jowl @greenstripe @Ohit

If you’d like to know more about it, send me a message anytime. There won’t be any ‘rules’ as such, except a willingness to test things out and not mind if things occasionally go wrong! So, a sense of humour is probably essential! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I’m honoured! Thank you!

Community is a great thing, although I’m not totally sure about the woman at number 23!

Spent more time than I intended in DIY mode yesterday fixing an internal door that had a broken catch, had to use chisels and drills, would have been easier to start with a new door.

Fairly sure the person that fitted it was one of Jim Hensons creations.

In any case, here’s your Yorkshire based DIY quiz question for 4 groan points…

Which essential part of ever drill was invented in Yorkshire?

@25 quid

it’s funny shaped bricks, and count yourself lucky the rustic satellite dish wasn’t mentioned.

Let he who is without cement cast the first brick….
