Upcycling - benefits and inspiration

Hi everyone, welcome to the Community’s upcycling thread.

Upcycling (the process of taking old or ‘waste’ materials and giving them a new life) can have massive environmental benefits - reducing the need for raw energy and materials needed to create new products, as well as the volume of waste going to landfill. Upcycling can also lead to some fantastically unique furniture, clothing, artwork… you name it!

As if the environmental benefits weren’t enough, it can also provide an interesting weekend project for lockdown.

This upcycling thread can be used to post about any materials lying around - maybe they’re too good to throw away, but you’re not 100% sure how to use them? Other Members may have bright ideas.

It can also be used as a place to show off your own upcycling creations, which may well help inspire others

I’m of course happy to kick things off!:sunglasses:

1 - timber framing spares. Surely there’s a good use for this!

2 - laminate worktop cutoffs. Two are about 60cm long and the other about 70cm. I would hate to throw this away as it’s in perfectly good condition. Initial thoughts were somehow using it as a breakfast bar?
